Every morning, I make the drive from my home in Silver Lake to my office in Playa Vista. My main route of transportation to work is the 101>110>105; coming home, I use 10>110>101.
This morning, I saw a giant Farmers Insurance blimp hovering over the 110 near the spot of the proposed stadium. It infuriated me to no end.
I suddenly had visions of unthinkably horrible traffic jams backing up the 5, the 110, the 10, the 101, Figueroa on weekends. I saw space being taken away from DTLA. I saw unused public transportation. I saw a lot of money being wasted on something very, very selfish.
More importantly — I saw my primary route to and from work being rendered essentially useless. I guess AEG expects us all to move away from DTLA and into the beach towns and the Westside so we can’t complain about the stadium. Some of us don’t like the beach towns, some of us can’t afford the wanton waste and luxury of the Westside.
Los Angeles DOES NOT — and I repeat, DOES NOT — need an NFL stadium. We have a stadium and a sports arena that sit unused 90% of the calendar year; we have a baseball stadium that already backs up Sunset Blvd. for miles on game day. Adding a football arena into the mix is, quite simply, a recipe for disaster — and possibly the end of Los Angeles as a livable city.
Introducing an NFL stadium to DTLA is the end of Downtown as we know it.
If anyone has any resources or information on active community protests, petitions and to whom letters of dissent in regards to the stadium project, PLEASE submit that information here and I will post it on this site.
Similarly, feel free to submit information regarding city council and city planning meetings related to the stadium project so we can be sure this WILL NOT happen to this otherwise wonderful city.
Do people understand that while building a stadium will cost the taxpayers money, most stadiums lose money for the city meaning NOTHING GOOD WILL COME FROM THIS.
